IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN YOUNG GENERATION

How social media actually makes people lonely ?

Today, we are more connected than we have ever been before. From the moment we wake up, until the moment we put our heads down at night, we are plugged into the world around us and the people we know and love. So why do we feel more alone than ever? According to some research, the answer is social media.

In a survey exploring social media patterns, it was found that individuals who spent more time on social media every day felt lonelier than those who spent less time engaged in social media. Additionally, those who spent more time on social media in a given week felt more isolated than those who checked their social media less. An increase in social media use has been associated with increased distractibility and sleep disturbances.

In order to better understand how social media may be connected to loneliness, we must first recognize that it is not a simple equation. Just as there are a variety of reasons in which one may use social media, there are different ways in which social media could be fostering loneliness. The ease of accessibility may be causing us to connect more in the digital realm, but disconnect from the world around us.

How connecting with your family can make you a happy person:

There’s an old saying that goes: Families that play together, stay together. We all know that quality time with our family is paramount in building stronger relationships. Building forts, sharing stories, and just being together makes a difference in all of your lives. Family bonding time builds confidence, teaches children about interacting with others, and creates wonderful memories that last a lifetime.

“When was the last time you told your family and close personal friends that you loved them? Whatever your answer, do it today”.

Pay Real focus on your loved ones:

Don’t just spend time with someone but think about your work, or your blog, or the errands you have to run. Pay attention to that person. Listen. Really be there, in that moment, with that person. Because that’s a moment you’ll never get back, so spend it wisely.

“A happy family is but an earlier heaven.”

Research on how much average time people spend on social media  sites:

According to a report published by Consumer Behavior, the millennial generation prefers spending about 2 hours and 38 minutes on social media sites per day. The wasted time on social media can lead to deteriorating performance in academics and poor socializing skills. Hence, they should be educated to limit their media time.

If you find yourself wondering that scrolling through the feed every once in a while is alright and not a big deal, you will be taken aback to discover that an average adult spends over six years and eight months of their lifetime on social media. If that is not mind-numbing, we don't know what is. Facebook alone has US adults spending 38 minutes per day on it, which is just a fraction of 3 hours per day spent on social media by 16-24-year-olds.

In 2018, the average time spent on social media in a day by an adult was 142 minutes, which rose to approximately two and a half hours in 2019, followed by 3 hours in 2020. This is bound to increase as more than 3 billion people are expected to access social media sites by 2021. Social media has expanded horizons from being a platform to introduce oneself to the world; it has become a global market. Today, businesses, content creators, artists, and more are flourishing on social media thanks to their creativity and heavy traffic drawn by these applications and sites.

“Focus on how to be social, not on what to do on social media.”
